The GRILL Lab
The GIA Research Division is designed to advance knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease (AD), other forms of dementia, and aging-related health concerns.
The GRILL Lab investigates psychological health in aging and illness. More specifically, we aim to improve the lives of persons with life limiting illnesses (e.g., cancer; dementia) and their caregivers. Through our research we are aiming to provide free evidence based services in Lubbock and rural Texas.
• CREATIVE MINDS- We provide FREE respite services (3 hours a week) to family caregivers of persons with dementia and provide persons with dementia a recreational intervention that is once a week for 3 hours! The overarching goal of this project is to evaluate if therapeutic interventions can help improve neurocognitive functioning and stress among individuals with Dementia and Parkinson’s.
• TX CARES and TX CARES-TELEHEALTH- Implementing Individual Mental Health services for family members of individuals with Dementia both in person and through telehealth.
• Adapt Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills for Family Members of Dementia Patients; the primary aim of this study is to provide skills in a group setting in order to improve psychosocial functioning in family members of individuals who are caring for someone with dementia.
