In The News:
Four teams representing the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) flexed their entrepreneurial muscles and earned a place among the 14 startup teams selected for the 2024-2025 Accelerator Cohort during the Texas Tech Accelerator Competition April 5 at Buddy Holly Hall. The TTUHSC startup teams that advanced to the 2024-2025 Accelerator Program include: Burn Length of Stay, which seeks to revolutionize health care predictions utilizing machine learning technologies to predict hospital length of stay and prognosis. Team members from the TTUHSC School of Medicine include Alan Pang, M.D., TTUHSC assistant professor of surgery, and medical students Jordan Kassab and Vishal Bandaru. More
For Texas Tech University System students and faculty who have an entrepreneurial itch, the Innovation Hub located near the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) campus in Lubbock offers ongoing opportunities. These opportunities are available thanks to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) program. One team, led by Hongjun (Henry) Liang, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics at the TTUHSC School of Medicine, is working to address antibiotic resistance using patented nanoparticles known as nanoantibiotics. The second team, led by assistant professor of surgery Alan Pang, M.D., is developing an algorithm-based system that will produce better treatment outcomes for burn victims. More
Ramen Noodles are a common household meal that most kids love. However, the cooking process is sending children here in Lubbock to the hospital with severe burns. Dr. Alan Pang, a surgeon at UMC burn ICU, says he sees one or two patients a week. Dr. Pang says if your child does get burned, whether it is minor or severe, you should assess the wound, remove any clothing around the area, and seek medical attention. More
