Dr. Sai Siva J Mungara, our Program Director, is a distinguished physician and educator with extensive experience in internal medicine and lifestyle medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Narayana Medical College in India and completed her Internal Medicine Residency (M.D.) at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Centre in Maryland. Since 2016, she has held various roles at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, including Associate Professor, Associate Program Director, and Vice Chair in the Department of Internal Medicine. Her leadership roles also include serving as the Site Director for the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum. Additionally, she was the Medical Director of the Texas Tech Physicians Clinic and is an esteemed member of the Institutional Review Board at both the Amarillo and Lubbock campuses of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Her expertise is recognized through board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, as well as a certification from the American Hypertension Specialist Certification Program. Dr. Mungara is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and has received several accolades for her teaching, including the Outstanding Faculty Award, Resident’s Choice – Dean’s Awards, and the Best Teaching Faculty Award. Her professional interests include holistic medicine, quality improvement initiatives, and medical education. She is dedicated to advancing the field through innovative teaching and research, with a strong commitment to supporting the ambitions of emerging doctors.

Program Description
The Internal Medicine Residency Program is a mid-sized fully ACGME accredited, three-year University Program.
The resident learning experience is structured around three overlapping components:
1. Clinical Learning- learning IM core competencies through inpatient and elective rotations.
2. Academic Learning- learning IM core competencies through workshops, didactics, simulation, and conferences.
3. Personal and Professional Learning- learning to hone your craft through mentorship, wellness activities, professional
committees, and leadership training.
We match 17 categorical residents each year through NRMP.
Half of our residents choose to stay in the region after graduation.
Cardiology, PCCM, CCM, GI, Hem/Onc, Rheumatology, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology.
