Center of Excellence for Diabetes and Endocrinology

Introduction

Diabetes mellitus is a common, potentially devastating, expensive, treatable (but incurable) chronic disease. It is the most common endocrine disorder that seriously affects health and limits longevity. We have a strong foundation in endocrinology due to having expert faculty in adult endocrinology, ophthalmology and podiatry to enhance teaching and patient care. The division is dedicated to patient care, teaching and research, it is a strong and growing division with a close faculty-fellow interrelationship. This center is unique as it is the only center in West Texas to provide comprehensive education and research opportunities regarding endocrine patients.  A dedicated center consisting of knowledgeable physicians, researchers, fellows and scholars, dietitians, diabetic nurse educators and exercise specialists, is the best and possibly the most effective way to study early diabetic complications and design treatment interventions before irreversible complications develop.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the health of the people in the Permian Basin by providing excellent, efficient and cost effective care, and providing educational opportunities to medical students, PA students, and residents and healthcare professionals and the community.  And advancing knowledge through scholarship and research.

Texas Tech Physicians Endocrinology + Diabetes Center

The Center was established to provide comprehensive care to patients with all Endocrine Disorders (hormonal disturbances), with emphasis on major disorders, such as, diabetes mellitus, lipids disorders and obesity, thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer, and bone health.

Community Outreach

The center staff will strive to create awareness in the local community about healthy lifestyles and prevention. Provide education sessions in local schools, workplaces and retirement communities.
