Rural Residency Program

The Family Medicine Rural Residency program based in Midland/Odessa is a groundbreaking opportunity for residents that will change the quality of life for rural communities across Texas. From prenatal to geriatric care, residents learn to practice full-spectrum care for communities that need it most.

Reaching Communities in New Ways

With a room within the clinic dedicated to telehealth visits and a block of exam rooms currently being converted into telehealth spaces, telemedicine is an essential part of clinical practice for residents within the Rural Residency track. Telelinks are provided at each of the six rural sites, allowing for advanced resident education, mentoring and direct consultation/supervision from TTUHSC faculty.

Training for Tomorrow

By using the advancement of telehealth to benefit communities in need, this program builds the future by keeping a focus on community-oriented health care. Training primary care providers who understand their patients in every stage of life, collaborating within the communities, and developing models of solving health care access for rural and remote areas. This program is currently evolving, taking steps toward telemedicine access in school nurse’s offices and telehealth clinics in partnership with rural community partners.
