Which learning experience has been your favorite so far, or which one are you looking forward to?
My two favorite learning experiences so far have been my internal medicine precepting block and my cardiology rotation. On my most recent internal medicine precepting block, I was responsible for one P3 and one P4 student. Having learners at two different stages challenged me to think about the layered learning model and taught me a lot about how to tailor a rotation experience to each student’s needs. Specialty rotations such as cardiology, are physician-led, which creates a unique opportunity for a pharmacy resident. The cardiology practice site does not have a full-time pharmacist, so I had to figure out how to integrate into the practice site and contribute to patient care.
What do you like the most about your facility?
My favorite part about the TTUHSC pharmacotherapy program is that the pharmacotherapy residents get to experience all of the practice sites in Amarillo. We spend the most time at Northwest Texas Hospital, which makes it feel like home. The pharmacy staff at Northwest Texas Hospital embraces the residents as part of the pharmacy team. We also have learning experiences at BSA Hospital, the Amarillo VA, Texas Tech Clinics, private specialty clinics, and more.
What drew you to your current program?
I was drawn to the TTUHSC Pharmacotherapy program in Amarillo because of how involved
the residents are in teaching at the School of Pharmacy. This residency experience
is geared towards individuals who are interested in academia and precepting. Residents
are dedicated to patient care in the morning and transition to teaching in the afternoon.
Wearing two different hats and changing locations mid day makes long days seem shorter!
Resident involvement with the School of Pharmacy is a great way to network with the
current faculty members and to mentor the TTUHSC pharmacy students.

Which learning experience has been your favorite so far, or which one are you looking forward to?
My favorite learning experience so far has been inpatient mental health.
What do you like the most about your facility?
That our preceptors work in so many different facets of mental health... Also our office!
What drew you to your current program?
Last year, I was on the fence about what I wanted to do for PGY2. I had trouble deciding
between mental health and ambulatory care. As a PGY1 at the North Texas VA, I was
able to work with two mental health preceptors. Their teaching styles coupled with
my experience on their rotation helped me make my decision. As I met with more mental
health preceptors and learned about the PGY2 program, it was a no-brainer for me to
start the early commitment process. We have a diverse group of clinical pharmacists
that are dedicated and enthusiastic about training residents. They make the program
what it is!

Which learning experience has been your favorite so far, or which one are you looking forward to?
I have enjoyed my time in the Emergency Department the most.

The wide array of practice areas to choose from.
