Residency Program | Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Urology Department at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center we welcome you to the Urology Program website.

MISSION STATEMENT

Provide the highest standard of urological care in a compassionate and ethical manner.
Pursue academic, clinical, and technical excellence.
Foster an environment of intellectual curiosity and create life-long learners.
Promote leadership and mentorship at all levels.

The Texas Tech Urology residency program aims to produce diverse, skilled, and compassionate Urologists by providing outstanding clinical and surgical training.  Our goal is to prepare our residents to be independent and self-assured.  We train residents so they can choose to go into fellowship training, private practice in the region, or academic medicine.

Curriculum Overview

The Urology Residency Program at Texas Tech is a five year program that includes a PGY I year with a 6 month experience in the Department of Surgery.

At graduation, residents will have the necessary background to practice urology in the environment of their choice to include general or sub-specialty training, and/or an academic or research oriented career.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the Urology Residency at the Texas Tech University HSC! Our program participates in the American Urological Association Match. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

The following documents are required before your application will be reviewed by our program:
ERAS Application
• Personal statement
• Three letters of recommendation (at least one from a urologist with whom you have worked)
• USMLE scores (Step 1 at the time of application and Step 2, if available before November 1)

The 2025 Urology Residency Match Interviews will be conducted virtually.

Please note: Sub-internships in our department will act as an audition for a position in the urology residency program through the formal AUA match process. Students that completed a sub-internship in our department will not receive a formal interview during the match process. The student will still need to apply to Texas Tech Urology through ERAS and the AUA Match. Students who completed the urology sub-internship, in our department, will be automatically included in ranking decisions.

If a sub-internship student wishes to have a formal interview they will need to inform the program director, in writing.
