Empowering Medical Students

Growing up, Briget Hyde, a second-year medical student, didn't see doctors that looked like her. When she was accepted into the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine, she wanted to help empower not just other minority medical students but also younger students from elementary to college. “To be able to be that role model for a child or aspiring medical student is a blessing and one of the best gifts I can give to others and to myself,” Hyde said. More

Making a Difference: The Free Clinic Extraordinary Volunteers

Growing up in Lubbock, I’ve had the opportunity of witnessing change and growth. This was particularly evident in the medical field, as multiple hospitals and clinics were built to accommodate the greater West Texas area. However, I also knew that certain groups of people were being left behind. Those who could not afford to pay out of pocket and, for whatever reason, were not on any type of insurance, were overlooked. More
