Covenant Branch

Community-based Medicine Training Site

Established in July 2016, the Covenant Branch became a joint venture between TTUHSC School of Medicine and the Covenant Health System; as an alternative training site for students staying in the Lubbock area, but wish to experience community-based medicine.  Located a short distance from the Lubbock TTUHSC campus, Covenant Branch opened with third year clerkships.  Now offering a wide variety of sub-specialties within each clerkship along with MS4 selectives and electives in each clerkship.  Students will have a unique, one on one experience with community physicians in the areas of family medicine, internal medicine, OBGYN, pediatrics, and surgery.  Students participate in rotations within the Covenant Health System, which include Covenant Medical Center, Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital and various private physicians in the Covenant Medical Group practice.  

 
Clinical Experiences

Covenant Health System encompasses six locations with more than 1,000 licensed beds, and Lubbock’s only Women’s and Children’s Hospital with a fully dedicated Children’s Emergency Department.  Students have clinical experiences on the Lubbock TTUHSC campus with Texas Tech Physicians and University Medical Center. On the Covenant Branch students have the same amenities as the Lubbock TTUHSC campus students, including state of the art research technology within the Preston Smith Library, Simulation Center and an outstanding recreation facility on the Texas Tech University campus.

Covenant Children's Hospital

Covenant Children’s Hospital is the only licensed, full-service pediatric hospital in the region and one of only eight in the entire state.   While rotating at this 73-bed facility, Covenant students experience valuable hands on training during inpatient shifts, Newborn Nursery, and Emergency Center.  Covenant students also work alongside laborists and hospitalists to help provide healthcare to OBGYN patients.

“The Edge,” an on-site student didactics suite offers a comfortable learning environment for medical student education where they can interact with residents and attendings while having access to state of the art educational materials.
