Internal Medicine
The TTUHSC Department of Internal Medicine in Amarillo is dedicated to patient care, teaching at the resident and medical student levels and research. It's a strong and growing department with a close faculty-resident/student interrelationship and a strong foundation in general internal medicine.
Established in the mid-1970's as a regional campus of the flagship Texas Tech University in Lubbock, with a goal of training physicians for the underserved West Texas and Panhandle region, TTUHSC is now a separate university in the Texas Tech University System. The Amarillo campus operates under the leadership of the Regional Dean and the Regional Department Chairs of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and Psychiatry. And while many graduates have remained in the area, many others have gone on to fellowships and practices elsewhere in the state and nation.
Our Internal Medicine program strikes a balance between clinical and didactic teaching, individual clinical experience and supervision, and public and private institutions, with patients across the entire socioeconomic spectrum. We see the health problems typical of various groups, the common and the uncommon, the general and the subspecialty-oriented, the inpatient and outpatient.
Our department is passionate about advancing the health of our panhandle citizens
through clinical practice, research and graduating competent caring physicians.
