Myrna L. Armstrong Endowed Scholarship for Nursing

Giving Spirit Lives On

Even though Myrna Armstrong has retired from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing, her giving spirit continues to live on through a scholarship she established. The Myrna L. Armstrong/ Elizabeth (Hanslik) Montalvo School of Nursing Endowed Scholarship will award scholarships to RN to BSN students in the counties surrounding Marble Falls. The Adolf R. Hanslik Estate is providing matching scholarship funds for the TTUHSC School of Nursing. 

Myrna Armstrong, Ed.D., R.N., FAAN, dedicated 16 years to TTUHSC, during which she served as a tenured professor and regional dean for the School of Nursing at Highland Lakes. In 1999, she led the way for the state’s first complete online RN to BSN program. Dr. Armstrong made it possible for the school to initiate the accelerated Second Degree BSN program by obtaining a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant in the amount of $1.2 million.

In addition to serving the School of Nursing, Dr. Armstrong spent 29 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving our country during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. She is also an internationally recognized researcher of body art. She received a Distinguished Faculty Award from TTUHSC and a Research Achievement Award from the School of Nursing in 2003. Dr. Armstrong has authored and coauthored almost 100 articles published in national and international nursing, sociology/psychology and medical journals.

Dr. Armstrong’s dedication and service to TTUHSC and the community are greatly admired, and her career accomplishments are celebrated.
